They promise a day when nations won’t fight,
When children aren’t hidden in houses, kept out of sight,
When voices are heard, and people care what they say,
When tongues are not bitten and opinions hidden away.
The masses clamor for relief from the plights of the poor,
Those in power promise a solution, vowing this and so much more,
The homeless are assured houses they will find,
The wealthy vow relief is coming, assuring there will be a peace of mind.
The same promises are repeated every four years at this time,
The players go through the motions, acting out their tireless pantomime,
Their voices tell us, forget your fears and trust in me,
The masses cry out with questions as to when this will be?
